Playing disc golf in the snow is not only a blast, but it also adds an extra layer of excitement and difficulty to the game. So, bundle up, lace up your boots, and get ready for a winter wonderland adventure on the disc golf course!
Embrace the Chill
Don't let a little snow and cold weather scare you off! Playing disc golf in the snow is a unique experience that can't be replicated in any other season. Embrace the chill in the air, feel the crunch of the snow under your feet, and enjoy the serene beauty of a snow-covered course. Plus, you'll have the added bonus of fewer crowds on the course, giving you more room to show off your skills (or lack thereof).
Change Your Gear
For a winter round you are going to want warm clothes, snow pants, glove liners and / or gloves. We also wear snow boots or if the snow is deep snowshoes or skins work great! You will definitely get a workout, so dress in layers. This way you can adjust when you go from sweating to being cold and vice versa.
Choose the Right Discs
When playing disc golf in the snow, it's important to choose the right discs for the conditions. Opt for brightly colored discs that will stand out against the white snow, making them easier to spot after you've thrown them. Another tip to find your discs is look for slits in the snow where you disc went into the snow. You will also want to bring a towel to wipe off your discs between throws.
Watch Your Step
One of the biggest challenges of playing disc golf in the snow is navigating the slippery terrain. Watch your step and take your time moving between throws to avoid any unexpected slips and falls. Consider wearing waterproof boots with good traction to help you stay on your feet. And if you do happen to take a tumble, just brush yourself off, laugh it off, and keep on playing!
Adjust Your Game
Playing disc golf in the snow requires some adjustments to your usual game. The cold weather does affect the flight of your discs as the plastic is a lot stiffer. So make a couple throws to see how it affects them, so you can adjust your throw accordingly. Another change we like to do is pick a smaller course then you might normally play.
So, what are you waiting for? Grab your discs, round up your friends, and head out to the course for a round of snow disc golf. It's a fun and challenging way to enjoy the winter weather and keep your disc golf skills sharp all year round. Just remember to have fun, stay warm, and embrace the snowy adventure that awaits you on the course!
Have a great round!
